Robert De Niro has revealed that he drew on his own experiences whilst filming Everybody's Fine.
The actor stars alongside Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell as a widower who realises his only connection to his family was through his wife. So he sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children
Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I have five kids and two grandchildren, so I could easily draw on [my own experience] when it was applicable to this film.
"I can identify with this stuff, to say the least. I can understand what Frank is going through with his kids and that's what was so interesting to me," said the actor.
Everybody's Fine is the first big screen role of 2010 for De Niro but the year looks set to be a busy one for the Oscar winner.
He is set to return to the character of Jack Byrnes in Little Fockers, the third movie in the franchise.
Machete and Stone are also in the pipeline this year while Selma is currently in pre-production.
