Rise of the Planet of the Apes has toppled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 from the top of the UK box office.
An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
The movie had already been #1 in the U.S and took £5.8 million in it's opening weekend to also top the charts in the UK.
The Smurfs was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week as it opened at number two.
The movie brings together a great voice cast that includes Katy Perry, Alan Cumming and Anton Yelchin and too £3.7 million to take the second spot.
After a month at the top the reign of Deathly Hallows - Part 2 has been brought to an end as it slipped two places to three - the movie however still grossed £1.7 million this weekend.
J.J. Abrams' latest project Super 8 was also down two places as it fell from last week's number two to this week's number four.
Mr Popper's Penguins rounded off the top five, also suffering a two place fall, while Horrible Bosses stayed at six.
Cars 2 was down two places at seven while Captain America: The First Avenger was the biggest faller this week as it dropped four places from four to eight.
Both Horrid Henry: The Movie and Bridesmaids dropped two places to round off this week's chart at nine and ten.
