Cult director Quentin Tarantino was horrified when studio bosses suggested he directs the big-screen version of cult '70s show Hawaii Five-O as he hates the series. Warner Bros. Pictures are currently developing a movie version of the Jack Lord-starring TV show, which ended in 1980 after 12 years. He says, "My producing partner at the time Lawrence Bender was hanging out with some dude from Fox or Warners or whatever, and they said I should stop working on what I was doing, because I'd be so into this."I tried to watch the old TV show, but it sucks. I don't even like Hawaii."The highly popular director rose to fame in the early nineties violent indie filmmaking with Reservoir Dogs in 1992 and Pulp Fiction in 1994.Pulp Fiction brough the director major success winning the Palme d'Or at the 1994 Cannes fillm festival as well as an Oscar for Best Screenplay and Pulp Fiction was also nominated for best picture. The director is curently promoting his latest movie Death Proof. In America this was a joint project with Robert Roderiguez releasing two movies as one. Roderiguez directed Planet Terror and Tarantino directed DeathProof and they were released as Grindhouse.
Despite being recieved well by the critics Grindhouse failed at the box office. So internationally the two films are being released seperately.
