Puss In Boots

Puss In Boots stars Antonio Banderas (Shrek, The Mask of Zorro, Spy Kids,) and Salma Hayek (Frida, Spy Kids) have been talking to education charity FILMCLUB about their roles in the new comedy animation from the makers of Shrek.

Speaking about playing the title character, Banderas told the charity; "I adore this character. It would be very bad for me to say I have similarities with him because I really think that he has values that I don’t  - he is just too courageous and I am not that courageous!"

He added; "I think the creative people - the scriptwriters, our director - they try to get from you a lot of your own personal features and also they make references to characters that I have played in the past like Zorro, Desperado, The 13th Warrior I can see a little bit more of me in this character."

Co-star Hayek joked about the similarities between herself and her character - Kitty Softpaws - telling FILMCLUB; "Well she is independent and I have a great sense of adventure and I do feel like I have a lot of similarities with my character but I want to clarify that I am not a thief! In this manner we are not alike at all!"

The actors, along with the film’s director Chris Miller, answered questions from 16-year-old FILMCLUB Young Ambassador Lily Donnelly during their press conference, which was also webcast live to the charity’s 250,000 members.

The teenager asked the trio about the new film which chronicles the back story of the popular feline freedom fighter whose character takes centre stage with his own film after wowing audiences in Shrek.

Lily, who is a member of FILMCLUB via her school’s film club in which she watches, discusses and reviews a wide range of films, said of Puss In Boots; "It’s just a fun, visual film for all the family to enjoy.

"However old you are, this film will make you smile and laugh - a definite tool for putting you in a good mood. If you enjoyed Shrek, I suggest you see this film and watch Puss in Boots take centre stage!"

Puss In Boots is released in UK cinemas on 9th December 2011.
