Prince Caspian has taken the box office crown in it's opening weekend entering the UK chart at number one and holding off strong competition from action flick Wanted.The second film in the Chronicles of Narnia series grossed over £4million continuing the run of good form the blockbusters are currently experiencing at the box office.Former US number one Prince Caspian picks up twelve months after the Pevensie children left Narnia but 1,300 years for Narnia itself.During their absence, the Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct and Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines and is now under the control of the evil King Miraz, who rules the land without mercy.The four children will soon meet a curious new character: Narnia's rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding, as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne.The film held off another new entry Wanted, director Timur Bekmambetov's debut Hollywood movie, starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie and grossed over £3 million.Last week's number one The Incredible Hulk fell two places from one to three and Adulthood and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull round off the top five.Keira Knightley's The Edge of Love, a story about Dylan Thomas, grossed a further £262,704 as it opened nationwide.
The only other new entry in the top ten was Bollywood picture Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic which opened at number ten.
