Peter Jackson has revealed that the Dwarves in The Hobbit were one of the reasons that he decided to direct the movie.
It is ten years this week that The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring hit the big screen and next year Jackson will be taking us all back to Middle Earth with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
An Unexpected Journey is the first of two movies as the Oscar winning filmmaker adapts this popular novel for the big screen.
But he admits that he wasn’t sure that he could bring something new to the movies having worked so long on The Lord of the Rings series.
Speaking to Total Film the director said: The Hobbit is very much a children’s book and The Lord of the Rings is something else; it’s not really aimed at children at all.
“I realised that the character of the dwarves are the difference. Their energy and disdain of anything politically correct brings a new kind of spirit to it. And what’s why I thought Ok, this could be fun!”
We haven’t seen Jackson in the director’s chair since The Lovely Bones, but he did produce The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn earlier this year.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December 2012.
