Peter Jackson is reportedly in talks to direct The Hobbit.
The Oscar winner was all set to pen the script for the movie as well as serve as executive producer on the production with Guillermo De Toro behind the camera.
But the future of the project had been thrown into chaos when Del Toro stepped down from the helm and while Jackson claimed that he had commitments elsewhere it appears that he may be prepared to take on the job after all.
According to Deadline Jackson is looking to get out of Tin Tin, he is supposed to working on a trilogy of movies alongside Steven Spielberg; the first movie has already be shot.
Other names had been linked to the job including David Yates, Brett Ratner and Neill Blomkamp but there were murmurs that MGM always wanted Jackson to take over.
Even with Jackson on board it remains to be seen when shooting on the project will begin principle photography and a cast is yet to be announced.
