Paul Bettany is delighted that he is starring in an action movie that he fell in love with as a child.
The British actor takes on the role of Archangel Michael in Scott Stewart’s Legion, which is released next month.
And it’s a change of pace for Bettany as he found himself on wires and playing a more action hero. The movie follows Michael as he falls to earth and makes a stand in a remote dinner against a swarm of angels sent to earth by God who has lost his faith in mankind.
Speaking to Empire magazine the actor said: "I really, really love movies. I love them more probably than I love acting.
"But let’s be honest, when I fell in love with cinema as a boy, I wasn’t watching Bergman. I used to stay in on Sundays and watch the old Errol Flynn movies.
"Suddenly I’m on wires doing flips and looking like Bruce Lee. It’s embarrassing how much fun I had making this."
Legion is the first movie of the year for Bettany and his first venture onto the big screen since taking on the role of Charles Darwin in Creation.
But it’s action all the way as he teams up with Stewart later this year for another movie Priest, in which he plays a vampire killing clergyman.
Legion is released 5th March.
