Paul Weitz has revealed that Nick Flynn's novel Another Bullshit Night In Suck City really got under his skin that he wanted to make it into a movie.
And Being Flynn is that movie that brings together Robert De Nero and Paul Dano as father and son.
But Weitz admits that the message of the book was something that really struck a chord with him.
Paul Weitz told Collider: "It really got under my skin. It’s very strange because the situation is so specific.
"Nick found a place working at this homeless shelter, when he was in his 20s, and then encountered his dad there, and had that be where they rekindled their relationship.
"He was dealing with this mythological and extremely difficult dad. The central question of whether you can create yourself or whether you’re fated to be your dad was one that was really resonant for me.
Being Flynn reunites Weitz with De Nero, the pair worked together on Weitz's last directorial project Little Fockers.
