Paul Greengrass has revealed that he is happy that The Hurt Locker is received the attention, praise and awards that it is.
Greengrasses' latest release is also based during the conflict in Iraq, a film genre that has struggled with critics and at the box office in the past.
However, much like The Hurt Locker, Green Zone has been met well by the critics and has opened at number two on the American box office.
Speaking to Contactmusic the filmmaker said: "It's great that 'The Hurt Locker' was made and I'm thrilled that it's getting the recognition that it does.
"Speaking as somebody who has tried to make a film set in that part of the world, anybody else who's done one gets absolutely total respect from me.
"I think what's interesting cinematically is the emergence of 'The Hurt Locker' - and the fact it's received the critical recognition that it has.
"It's part of the mysterious way our culture absorbs and processes experiences that occur in the real world."
Green Zone sees filmmaker Greengrass re-unite with actor Matt Damon, their third picture together.
Green Zone is out now.
