Oren Peli's new horror movie Paranormal Activity was inspired by spooky goings-on in the director's own home.
Peli shot the film in his bedroom and created all the special effects using his home computer, but it has quickly become a box office sensation, returning a staggering $40 million (GBP27 million) on his budget of just $15,000 (GBP10,000).
The director admits he came up with the idea after a series of eerie sleepless nights at his house in southern California.
Peli tells the New York Daily News, "There were a couple of things that were hard to explain. I never thought we had a ghost or we were dealing with a supernatural phenomenon. But that's what got me thinking..."
After five weeks on the American box office chart is climbed to the number one spot this weekend with a gross of $21 million, taking it's U.S. gross to $61 million.
The film held off strong competition from horror movie franchise Saw VI.
Paranormal Activity opens in the UK 27th November.
