Paul Giamatti has described working with director Steve McQueen as 'amazing'.

The actor has teamed up with McQueen for the first time on Twelve Years A Slave - which is based on the memoirs of a man living in New York in the mid 1800s who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the deep south.

Giamatti remarked on how McQueen created a world where all of this actions and issues were completely 'normal'

Speaking to Collider the actor said: "He was amazing! He is a really, really interesting guy. The way it was shot, he is a very interesting dude. This movie could be really freaky.

"His whole take on it is to take any kind of modern sensibility off of it and just create a world in which it’s completely normal that people get chained up and beaten and sold to each other.

"He wanted to create a sense in which it’s totally normal, so he’s not commenting on it, at all."

Twelve Years A Slave has brought together a fantastic cast as Giamatti is joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch.

It has been a busy 2012 for Giamatti with roles in John Dies at the End, Cosmopolis and Rock of Ages.

And next year looks set to follow in the same vein as he has completed work on Lucky Dog, The Congress, Romeo and Juliet and is currently filming Saving Mr. Banks.
