Noomi Rapace thought that her performance in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo would not be met well.
The actress took on the role of Lisbeth Salander in the series of movies, based on the Millennium Trilogy, and the first film received rave reviews when it was released earlier this year.
Despite the movie's success the actress admits that she was worried about taking on the role.
Speaking to People the actress said: "I thought everyone would hate me! The readers of the books have such a strong relationship with her as a character; I thought they'd never accept what I did with Lisbeth.
"It felt like a suicide mission to accept the role."
And despite all of the success that has come her way with the series of movies Rapace admits that she is happy to leave the character behind and didn't want to reprise the role in the American adaptation of the series.
"I'm not sentimental. I wanted to move on. Lisbeth is no longer a part of me and it's completely okay for someone else to become her.
"I'm sure it changed my personality in many ways. I did everything I could, and I want to continue my path."
The actress will star in Sherlock Holmes 2 alongside Robert Downey Jr, a project that she is currently filming.
