Nine has had its release pushed back to December (09).
The film, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard, was expected to hit U.S. cinemas in time for the Thanksgiving Day weekend (26-29Nov09), but the picture, directed by Rob Marshall, will now get a limited U.S. release on 18 December (09) before opening across America and in the U.K. on Christmas Day (25Dec09).
Studio bosses at the Weinstein Co. insist the date change is not the result of delays in production, reports Variety.com.
Nine is based on the Tony Award Winning Broadway musical and inspired by Fellini's classic film "8 1/2," with Day Lewis as world famous film director Guido Contini as he prepares his latest picture and balances the numerous women in his life.
Contini's wife Luisa Contini is played by Cotillard, his sultry mistress Carla by Cruz, Kidman stars as his film star muse Claudia Graham, Judi Dench plays the role of Lily - his confidant costume designer, Sophia Loren is his mother or Mamma and Hudson plays Stephanie the young American fashion journalist.
Nine sees the return of Daniel Day Lewis to the big screen since he picked up a Best Actor Oscar for his role in There Will be Blood in February.
The film carries further poignancy as the script was written by Anthony Minghella before he passed away earler this year.
