Nicole Kidman says that the TV miniseries was her big acting break.
The actress worked in TV when she was starting out as an actress back in Australia and it were shows such as Bangkok Hilton that really set her on her way.
And Kidman has returned to the small screen this year as she teamed up with Clive Owen for Hemingway & Gellhorn.
Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "Growing up in Australia, the miniseries was such a big, big thing. It was something that launched my career because I did miniseries in Australia.
"I did a thing called Bangkok Hilton and one called Vietnam, which was on the Vietnam War in the 60s and was a hugely rated show. That was my big break, really, as an actor."
The actress will be seen back on the big screen later this year with her new movie The Paperboy - which sees her star alongside Matthew McConaughey and Shia LaBeouf.
The movie whipped up a storm on the festival circuit as Lee Daniels made his return to the director's chair.
Kidman has also completed work on Stoker.
