A life size statue of Wallace and Gromit is to be built in Preston in honour of their creator Nick Park who comes from the city.The Oscar-winning filmmaker is currently working on designs for the bronze effigy, with council officials working to raise the £100,000 ($200,000) necessary to find the project. He says, "This is a really exciting project and I'm delighted to be working on the designs."As a Prestonian myself it would be a wonderful honour to have a statue to the characters in my home city."It is hoped the statue will be unveiled at the end of 2008.The filmaker is a four time Oscar winner his first came in 1990 when both Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out and Creature Comforts were nominated for Best Animated Short Film. Creature Comforts went on to win.Park them went on to make two more short Wallace adn Gromit films The Wrong trousers in 1993 and A Close Shave in 1995 both of them picking up an Oscar.
Park released his first full length Wallace and Gromit film in 2005 Wallace anf Gromit:Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The film won Park his fourth Oscar for Best Animated feature.
