Neill Blomkamp has revealed that he is working on a sequel to 2009’s critically acclaimed sci-fi drama District 9.
Blomkamp made his feature length directorial debut last year with the movie, with a little help for Oscar winner Peter Jackson who was on production duties.
Since the release of the movie a sequel has also been a possibility with the end of District 9 perfectly poised for a follow-up.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times the director said: "It is science fiction and it has many sociopolitical ideas that interest me.
“Those ideas are wrapped up inside something that is like a Hollywood action film."
However he revealed that he wasn’t going to go down the big budget blockbuster road and has turned down a string of similar projects: "This next movie will cost more than District 9 but it will cost much, much less than the big summer films. You can do a lot for less now."
"I've been offered films - a lot of films, in fact - with seriously high budgets, and I've turned them all down.
“Once the budgets get bigger, you can't do what you want as a director, unless you're Peter Jackson or James Cameron."
