Neil Blomkamp is the latest name to be thrown into the hat to direct The Hobbit.
Guillermo Del Toro pulled out of helming the movie last month due to further delays on the shooting of the film as well as the financial issues facing MGM at the moment, Bond 23 is just another movie that has been put on a back-burner because of this.
David Yates, Brett Ratner and David Dobkin, are the name that have been banded around as Del Toro's replacement but TheOneRing has hinted that Blomkamp is also in the mix.
Blomkamp shot to fame last year for his movie District 9, which went on to pick up a Best Picture Oscar nomination, which was produced by none other than Peter Jackson himself.
While there are other directors in the picture it's believed that MGM and Warner Bros want Jackson to take over the directing of the project.
After del Toro's departure the attention immediately shifted to Jackson to take over the director's chair but the Oscar winner insisted that commitments elsewhere would prevent him from directing.
Jackson has penned the script for the movie, which will be split into two films, and will serve as executive producer when shooting finally gets underway.
It is still unknown who will take on the central role of Bilbo Baggins.
