Natalie Portman is flattered by the Oscar talk that is surrounding her performance in Black Swan.
Its very complimentary and flattering that people are talking about that
The actress is back on the big screen in the new year with the latest project from The Wrestler filmmaker Darren Aronofsky but the movie is already lighting up the festival circuit.
Speaking to The Associated Press she said: "Its very complimentary and flattering that people are talking about that.
"The best thing with this movie is that everybody really seems to be having a strong visceral response. Obviously what we do is about wanting to make things that people connect to, that's the biggest prize."
The movie also stars Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis and the on the relationship between a veteran ballet dancer and a rival. Playing a dancer in the film her experience as a child helped her in her preparation.
"I did ballet until I was 12 and then stopped when I started acting seriously", she said.
"I then started again for the film when I was 27, so there was a 15 year gap. I did have a decent base and I had the greatest people in the ballet world shaping me".
This is the first movie for Aronofsky since The Wrestler but it's just one of many for Portman as she has completed work on Your Highness, Thor and No Strings.
Black Swan is released 11th January.
