Education charity FILMCLUB recently caught up with the father of the modern documentary, Morgan Spurlock to talk about his forthcoming feature length film ‘The Greatest Movie Ever Sold’.

Famed for taking his ideas to the extreme, Spurlock’s latest effort sees him seeking corporate sponsorship to entirely fund the production of his next movie and chasing everyone from drinks companies to shoe manufacturers for a slice of revenue.

The main behind the notorious ‘Super Size Me’ uses the opportunity to have a close look at the way corporate sponsorship and product placement pervade western culture and is especially prevalent in the US.

When asked about his philosophy towards film making Spurlock commented that "One of the goals of my company and of the films that I make is, and we have a mantra, ‘if you can make someone laugh you can make someone listen’" and moreover said he hoped that 'people can expect to be very entertained but also find something that will stick with them when the leave the theatre'.

The unusual nature of ‘The Greatest Movie Ever Sold’ is not lost on Spurlock who noted that: 'The hardest part of the process was getting anybody to say yes, it was such an out of the box idea, it was so against anything that any of these brands had ever done before - so just getting anybody to come on board and back the film took months.'

Yet despite initial set-backs a host of companies eventually bought into the film and it looks set to be Morgan’s biggest success since his fateful McDonalds experiment.

Since FILMCLUB launched, 7,000 schools have joined the nationwide scheme, with 250,000 members already benefiting from the exposure to inspiring and potentially life changing films every week. A recent research survey carried out by FILMCLUB amongst its schools shows the initiative is proving hugely beneficial to children’s academic and social development.
