Mickey Rourke has revealed that he had to be talked into taking on big budget blockbuster Iron Man 2.
The Oscar nominated actor takes on the role of Ivan Vanko in Jon Favreau's superhero sequel but he didn't want to play a straight forward villain.
Speaking to the Press Association Rourke said: "I didn't want to play a one-dimensional villain,"
"I said I'd like him to have a sense of humour. I'd like him to have a particular look. I'd like to do it with the accent.
"I could see Favreau shaking his head, and I knew I was taking the chance that he could just say goodbye, thank you for coming in. But he embraced the ideas."
Iron Man 2 is already top of the UK box office and has grossed over $100 million at the global box office.
Since resurrecting his acting career last year with The Wrestler, for which he received a Best Actor Oscar nod, work has flooded in for Rourke.
And he is back on the big screen later this summer alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li in The Expendables.
Iron Man 2 is out now.
