Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke has quit his role in the upcoming big screen remake of Conan the Barbarian.

The Wrestler actor had signed up to play Conan's father in the new movie alongside former Baywatch star Jason Momoa, who will tackle the role made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 original.

But Rourke has now dropped out of the production, and will be replaced by Hellboy star Ron Perlman, according to Moviehole.net.

Perlman was previously involved with the animated Conan TV series, voicing the lead role.

Conan The Barbarian is slated for a 2011 release.

Since his Oscar nominated turn in The Wrestler the actor has been inundated with roles and he returns to the big screen later this year in Iron Man 2.

He joins Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Don Cheadle on the cast list as he takes on the role of Whiplash.

He will also team up with Megan Fox later this year for Passion Play before moving onto Sylvester Stallone's action movie The Expendables.
