Michael Sheen was keen to show off a very different side to Aro in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
The actor is set to reprise the role of Aro, head of the Volturi, in the final Twilight movie and he admits that he couldn't wait to deliver is crazy laugh for the first time.
Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "For a character who is so unpredictable - you never quite know where you are with him and what's going on with him - I like the idea that there was one moment when you heard his true nature," he said.
"And in the laugh, this out of control and hysterical craziness, you do. I wasn't sure if anyone would let me do it because it's quite extreme.
"But I liked that because he does play this false persona so much and has this very soft voice, I wanted something that cut through to what was actually true - like a flash of lightning."
Breaking Dawn - Part 2 sees the franchise brought to an epic close as Aro leads the Volturi for a showdown with the Cullen's.
Away from the franchise it has been a busy year for the actor as he has finished work on Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box and Admission.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 is released 16th November.
