Michael Fassbender has admitted that he keeps an open mind when he comes to reading scripts and doesn't limit himself when it comes to choosing movie roles.
Fassbender has seen his star rise in the last twelve months with roles in Steve McQueen's critically acclaimed Hunger, in which he played Bobby Sands, and Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.
In an interview with STV the actor said: "I like doing both kinds of films. It doesn't always have to be social commentary. Besides, I like running around in a leather Speedo."
"I've been going on my gut pretty much from the beginning. I'm not always going to get it right, but risk interests me. There is some embarrassing element to everything I do in life.
"I used to beat myself up about it, but if you're really going to learn and expand you've got to be open to doing things that perhaps don't work out in the way you envisaged."
He returns to the big screen this week with Fish Tank, the second film by Andrea Arnold, and follows the relationship between Mia (Katie Jarvis), a feisty, foul-mouthed 15-year-old schoolgirl living on a sink estate with her mum (Kierston Wareing) and little sister, and her mum's new boyfriend Connor (Fassbender).
Fish Tank is released 11th September.
