Michael Fassbender can't understand why his new movie Shame has been given a tough rating.
The actor, who leads the cast in the movie, shares the view of his co-star Carey Mulligan's view that the NC-17 rating the movie has been give in the U.S. is a tad harsh.
Speaking to the Huffington Post the actor said: "Half of us have a penis and the other half have probably seen one, and so why should it be more normal to, like, chop people's heads off and shoot people?
"Does that mean that that's more acceptable or closer to us as human beings?"
"Most of us have sex, so I don't understand what we're trying to sweep under the carpet or repress or not take a look at it."
Fassbender's central performance in the movie has already been winning praise, he went on to win a Best actor gong at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year.
Shame is the first movie for director Steve McQueen since the critical hit Hunger, which also starred Fassbender.
Shame is released 20th January 2012.
