Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender has revealed that he used the comic books themselves to inspire his performance in X-Men: First Class.

The actor is back on the big screen this summer as Magneto in a second X-Men spin off - which looks at the early years of Magneto and Charles Xavier.

And Fassbender admits that he did not want to copy the performance of Ian McKellan so turned to the comic books for inspiration.

Speaking to SuperheroHype the actor said: "I haven't based it on him at all actually, and I hope fans aren't going to be disappointed by that, because I know he's rated as number one comic villain, well he's up there anyway.

"I just tried to steep myself in the source material, the comic books, and there's so much.

"He's such a fascinating guy, and how he becomes Magneto is a really interesting journey."

Fassbender joins an all star cast of James McAvoy, January Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Bryne, Nicholas Hoult and KEvin Bacon.

X-Men: First Class is released 2nd June.
