Michael Douglas has admitted that he is delighted to return to the character of Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
Douglas re-teams with filmmaker Oliver Stone, twenty three years after the original, and he believes that this time around the movie could highlight where America has been going wrong with the economy.
Speaking to Contactmusic the actor said: "There was a recession when the first movie arrived in 1987. There's a recession now.
"Greed, which Gekko declared as being good, hasn't just survived but has thrived amid easy credit, sub-prime mortgages and an America that ignored the signs of an oncoming market collapse.
"We brought Oliver Stone a script. Stone, the son of a stockbroker, wanted to do it."
The 1987 movie, which also starred Charlie Sheen, brought Douglas an Oscar for Best Actor. This time around he stars alongside Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin and Carey Mulligan.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is released 23rd April.
