Michael Cera has revealed that he felt like he was in control of his character whilst filming Scott Pilgrim vs the World, despite director Edgar Wright knowing what he wanted.

Cera has joined forces with Wright, the man behind Shaun of the Dean and Hot Fuzz, for the big screen adaptation of the popular comic and the actor claimed that it was a different working experience for him.

Speaking to FirstShowing.net the actor said: "It was different from anything I had ever done. It was a different actor-director relationship as far as what he was asking of people, because he knew what he wanted and knew exactly what he was making.

"But at the same time I always felt like I had ownership of the character. His choices in shot design and look of the film works really well."

And while the actor is starring in an adaptation of a comic book series Cera admits that he was never a big comic book fan but had read Scott Pilgrim.

"I'd never read comics but I had read this one for some reason. A friend of mine was describing it to me one day and it sounded really good so I went and got it.

"The first two volumes had been out and I loved them. And I'm from Toronto."

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is released 25th August.
