Michael Caine is to be handed cinema industry festival ShoWest's most prestigious honour on Thursday - and he couldn't be more thrilled.

The Educating Rita star will collect the Lifetime Achievement Award at the movie distributors forum as part of a gala ceremony in Las Vegas.

He says, "It's an extraordinary thing to get. They [cinema bosses] are tough. There is no sentiment there. I have never been to ShoWest before. They are not a namby-pamby crowd."

This is not the first prestigious honour handed to the Italian Job star. He was awarded the Oustanding Contribution to Showbusiness prize at last year's Variety Club awards.

The 76-year-old actor has also collected two Oscars and 3 Golden Globes during his 50-year career.
