Melissa Leo

Melissa Leo says that she likes the respect and the exposure she has had since winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

The actress picked up the gong for her role in boxing movie The Fighter, which also saw co-star Christian Bale win Best Supporting Actor.

And the actress says that the win really put her on the map as an actress.

Speaking to The Huffington Post the actress said: "There's a certain amount of respect [that comes with the Oscar], which is lovely, and with it comes a certain amount of responsibility to hit a mark that I'm expected to now.

"Which I've never had; I've always gone under the radar and was just able to do what I do.

"I've never shied away from a challenge, and if it's more of a challenge then that's what it'll be. As I look at the roles of the past two and a half years, they're all pretty much 'Melissa Leo roles', but I think it's boundless in a way.

"I could do anything almost! [Prior to the Oscar, there was a lot of,] 'Who is she?' Now, I find in the roles I'm being asked to do, there's a continuance of that. Which is great."

Since The Fighter the actress has gone on to mix movie and TV work with roles in the likes of Treme and Mildred Pierce as well as Red State and The Brooklyn Brothers Beat The Best.

And we are going to be seeing plenty of the actress as she has completed work on Dwegons, Something in the Water, Flight and Oblivion.
