Melissa Leo has revealed that she stayed in character during the filming of her latest movie The Fighter.
Leo picked up a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe at the weekend for her performance in the movie - in which she plays the mother of Micky Ward.
But the actress has defended her method of acting and believes that she is there to produce as good a performance as possible.
Speaking to The New York Times she said: "It's method acting. It's not perverse. It's not weird.
“It's not sick or mental, but if the camera is going to roll on me, who knows when, in five minutes or in five hours, I'd like to be as close as I can to the character when the camera rolls."
"I'm not there to make friends. I'm not there to look good. Maybe I'll come here and make friends and look good tonight, but when I'm working, [and] it's just serious."
Leo grabbed everyone’s attention back in 2008 with Frozen River and has gone on to star in Righteous Kill, Everybody’s Fine and Welcome to the Rileys.
She has already completed work on Lost Revolution and Seven Days in Utopia, which sees her team up with Robert Duvall.
She is currently filming The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best.
The Fighter is released 4th February.
