Matthijs Van Heijningen has admitted that she was both scared and excited to take on The Thing.
John Carpenter’s movie is nearly 30 years old, and it’s been carried so preciously by all these fans, so it was quite daunting
The movie is a prequel to the John Carpenter classic and now a reboot or a sequel but Van Heijningen says it was still nerve wracking going near a movie that was so loved by the fans.
Speaking to Collider the filmmaker said: "I was scared as hell, but eager as well because I thought I could pull it off.
"But, it’s difficult to make something that stands in the shadow of the legacy of another movie. In some ways, that’s very restricted because you’ve got to live up to that feeling.

The Thing stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead with Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Ulrich Thomsen also on the cast list.
The movie is first feature film for Van Heijningen after kicking off his career in shorts.
