Matthew Vaughn was terrified of telling his wife Claudia Schiffer he had invested his own money in upcoming movie Kick Ass - because he feared they would lose their house if the film flopped.
The director/producer was so determined to make the superhero drama, starring Nicolas Cage and Aaron Johnson, he decided to plough his own cash into the venture.
But Vaughn was scared of telling his supermodel wife about the investment, as their family home would be at risk if the movie wasn't successful.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "I did put my own money into the movie, I felt I needed to look the other investors in the eye and put my money where my mouth is.
"Talking to my wife and explaining I might just have lost the house because the film had tanked was a bit of pressure, but I believe this was a film that needed to be made."
The movie is based on the comic book of the same name by Mark Millar and is Vaughn's first movie since the success of Stardust.
Johnson takes on the role of Dave Lizewski, an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.
