Matthew McNulty has revealed that he hated Eric Cantona.
The avid Manchester City fan was not the biggest fan of the Frenchman when he played for rivals Manchester United in the late nineties.
However the actor came face to face with the footballer turned thespian in Ken Loach's new movie Looking For Eric.
In an interview with Digital Spy McNulty said: "I'm a City fan. It was difficult, it was harsh! Because there's a United theme throughout it.
"I just had to kind of get over that and I did. But it's a good film so it was well worth breaking my rules!
"As much as I hated Cantona as a player, I think to work with him was great. It was just a great film from an actor's point of view, because there's no director like Ken Loach for giving actors freedom."
The film follows a postman and football fanatic whose life is descending into chaos. In a bid to get everything back under control he receives some life coaching from philosophical Eric Cantona.
Looking For Eric will be Ken Loach’s ninth film to receive its World Premiere In Competition at the Cannes Film Festival, following his Palme D’Or win for The Wind That Shakes The Barley in 2006.
