Matt Damon has revealed that no one had offered him a role in months when he landed the lead role in The Informant.
The actor landed the part as whistleblower Mark Whitacre in Steven Soderbergh's back in 2001, which came as a surprise to the actor.
Speaking to to STV the actor said: "Nobody had offered me a job in nine months. I was very aware of my position in the business. It was in that climate that he called.
"He said that he found something for us to do. I was so confused by that because nobody had offered me a job in so long.
"I could be the lead in a Steven Soderbergh movie? I instantly said yes."
Since then Damon has seen his career soar, mainly thanks to his role in the Bourne movies, and there are already Oscar whispers surrounding his role in The Informant.
The movie has opened at number two at the American box office. He returns in another Oscar potential movie later this year in the form of Clint Eastwood's Nelson Mandela project Invictus.
