Martin Freeman

Martin Freeman has called the length of the shoot for The Hobbit trilogy as daunting.

The British actor takes on the role of Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's adaptation of the Tolkien novel.

The movies were shot in New Zealand and the distance and time that he spent away from home was one of the most difficult aspects of the role.

Speaking to Flicks and Bits the actor said: "It was daunting because you knew that the duration of it, of filming, was going to be so long, and the distance away from home was so far. That was the daunting thing for me."

However it has paid off for Freeman as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been a huge box office success in its opening weekend.

The movie has broke December records in the U.S. and currently sits at the top of the UK box office.

Despite mixed reviews from the critics the movie has taken $230 million worldwide.

As for Freeman we will be seeing him on the big screen next year in Svengali and The World's End before we return to Middle Earth for The Desolation of Smaug.
