Mark Ruffalo is distancing himself from the lead in a new biopic about David Koresh, because he doesn't want to play the cult leader on film.
The Zodiac star admits he read for the role but immediately turned it down.
He says, "I'm not doing that. I read it and passed on it. I didn't want to hold up anybody... but, for some reason, I can't get away from it. I didn't really respond to the story."
Koresh, who bears a striking resemblance to Ruffalo, was the leader of a Branch Davidian religious sect.
Koresh and over 70 followers barricaded themselves in their ranch headquarters outside of Waco, Texas and burned the building down in 1993 following an FBI raid. They were all found dead after the blaze.
It's already been a busy year for the actor having fond box office success with The Brothers Bloom, Shutter Island and Date Night but will return to the big screen with The kids Are Alright.
He has completed work on Margaret, which sees him star alongside Anna paquin and Matt Damon, and he is set to begin work on Second Coming with Marion Cotillard.
