Baz Luhrmann is to share his tips for making successful movie-musicals during his tenure as honorary chairman of the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF).
The Moulin Rouge! filmmaker will take charge of the 2010 event next month (Sep10), hosting the opening night gala and running a masterclass on the creation of musical works.
Luhrmann's talk will include clips from his films and provide wannabe filmmakers with advice on how to transfer musical performance theatre from the stage to the big screen.
He says, "In the crowded world of popular culture musical theatre needs to be, and is taking, leaps and bounds into an uncharted future.
"The New York Musical Theatre Festival is more than just a good idea. It is essential to the future prospects of the next generation."
The NYMF runs from 27 September (10) until 17 October (10).
