Stars from the world of international cinema will be flying in to the Vue West End this autumn when The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival relocates the majority of its galas and “Film on the Square” premiere events to the nine-screen entertainment complex.
Packed full of state-of-the-art digital and 3D technology, the Festivals new home will provide movie-goers with the best quality seating and viewing experience from which to enjoy the wealth of premiere festival entertainment on offer.
Some of the highlights from this year’s London Film Festival programme which will be showing at the Vue include: Jane Campion’s Bright Star in which Ben Whishaw takes the title role of John Keats together with Abbie Cornish and Kerry Fox; Lone Scherfig’s An Education starring Peter Sarasgaard, Emma Thompson, Sally Hawkins, Dominic Cooper and newcomer Carey Mulligan; Michael Haneke’s Das Weiße Band (The White Ribbon) winner of the Palm D’Or at this years’ Cannes Film Festival; John Hillcoat’s post-apocalyptic drama The Road starring Charlize Theron, Viggo Mortensen, Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall; and Stephen Soderbergh’s The Informant! starring Matt Damon and Melanie Lynskey.
Sandra Hebron, Artistic Director of the Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival, says, “With the redevelopment of the south side of Leicester Square, the BFI needed to find a new home on the square for the festival’s prestigious galas and “Film on the Square” strand events.
The Vue is a logical choice as it has long been one of the flagship cinema venues on the square, and will provide the festival with a range of modern venues which will be able to cope with the increasing demand from the Festival audiences.”
Tim Richards, CEO at Vue Entertainment, says, “When the BFI approached Vue to host the festival premieres on the square, we jumped at the chance to become involved with this world-class event.
"Our cinemas are fully equipped with the latest state-of-the art digital projection technology, making them the perfect place for audiences to enjoy the incredible selection of films at this years’ Festival.”
The Times BFI 53rd London Film festival runs from 14-29 October 2009.
