Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed that he almost quit acting after the success of Titanic.
The actor shot to fame in 1997 after the movie became the biggest grossing movie of all time and won eleven Oscars, including Best Picture, but DiCaprio was unhappy at being perceived as a pretty boy.
He told Contactmusic: "At first I hated the way I was turned into a pretty boy, as if that was all that was expected of me.
"It made me almost want to stop acting for a while because the attention that was focused on me was not where I wanted to take my career.
"I didn't want to do romantic films or anything which just exploited my image or appearance. I also kind of had to be more careful about the friends I was hanging out with.
"I was living a pretty big life for a while and then that just gets tiresome."
But the actor's career changed course in 2002 when he teamed up with filmmaker Martin Scorsese for Gangs of New York.
Since then the actor has bagged two Best Actor Oscar nominations, for his performances in The Aviator and Blood Diamond, and is now a real Hollywood heavyweight.
He reunites with Martin Scorsese for a fourth time this week for Shutter Island, an adaptation of Dennis Lehan's novel.
Shutter Island is out now.
