Leighton Meester enjoyed playing the villain in her new movie The Roommate.
Starring alongside Mika Kelly and Cam Gigandet the movie sees Meester take on the role of an obsessive roommate.
And while it was a different role that Meester enjoyed she admits that she struggled to understand her character.
Speaking to the Chicago Sun Times the actress said: “It was great for me to expand my horizons and play such a bad girl. It's a very different role for me. You can't worry if the audience will like you or hate you.
"I always like to find something in a character that I can relate to in life, but with Rebecca, none of her decisions are based in reality. This is a young woman who is actually quite unemotional when you peel back the layers.
"She doesn't find pleasure in things other people do. She's very self-absorbed. The only reason she'd even be intimate with someone is to gain something for herself.
"It was hard to act that out because I'm such an opposite type of person."
Meester can also be seen in Country Strong next month, which sees her team up with Gwyneth Paltrow and Garrett Hedlund.
The Roommate is released 15th April.
