Lee Daniels is urging civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.'s family to trust him with a planned biopic - because he's not working with a script that portrays the politician and humanitarian as a womaniser.
Reports suggest King's family have passed Paul Webb's screenplay to lawyers in a bid to halt any film from portraying the people's hero as a cheater, who enjoyed the company of prostitutes and mistresses.
But the Precious director, who is making the biopic Selma with Brad Pitt as producer, insists the Kings have nothing to fear.
He explains, "The script they have is not my script. This project is still in an embryonic stage, but I can tell you my story focuses on the civil rights marches.
"It’s not about tapes and prostitutes. It’s about the African-American man who changed history."
Precious is the movie that is grabbing all of the attention at the moment and was nominated at last weekend's Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture.
While it missed out to Avatar Mo'Nique did pick up the Best Supporting Actress gong for her performance as an abusive mother in the movie.
Precious, which is based on the novel Push by Sapphire, looks set to earn a string of Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Actress and best Supporting Actress.
