Lee Daniels believes that The Paperboy is Zac Efron's 'best work'.
Daniels teams up with the actor for the first time as he brings Peter Dexter's novel to life on the big screen.
The movie shocked viewers when it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year with the infamous peeing scene with Efron and Nicole Kidman.
But the director reveals that he enjoyed working with the young actor on the project.
Speaking to MTV News the director said: "Zac was marvelous. He was pure and hungry and eager to please and anxious to deliver the performance that he did.
"I'm really proud of what he did. I think it's his best work."
The Paperboy is the first directorial outing for Daniels since he enjoyed huge critical and awards success with Precious.
Daniels has brought together an impressive cast as Efron and Kidman are joined by Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and Scott Glenn.
Daniel is currently filming The Butler with Forest Whitaker, Robin Williams and Alan Rickman.
