Joss Whedon is the right man to take on The Avengers movie according to the head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige.
The cast for The Avengers was revealed at San Diego's Comic Con last week and will see Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans all reprise their roles as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America.
Jeremy Renner was revealed as the actor set to play Hawkeye while it was officially announced that Whedon would helm the project.
Speaking to MTV at Comic Con last week Feige said: "I've known Joss for many years. We were looking for the right thing and he came in and met on it.
"As you've already heard him say on his panels, he's incredibly intelligent, he's got great things to say about it, and if you look at the directors we've worked with, we hire directors who have the potential to do great things and we want our film to be that great thing."
And Feige believes that Marvel has always made the right decision when it has come to bringing in directors: "Whether it's Branagh who of course has done some great things, whether it's Favreau, who did some fun movies prior to 'Iron Man,' we want to find a director that's on the verge of doing something great, as we think Joss is."
Iron Man 2 has enjoyed box office success this summer and Thor and Captain America are both expected to hit the big screen next year.
The Avengers is slated for a 2012 release.
