Kevin Bacon has revealed that he likes to create a backstory for every character that he plays.
The actor is back on the big screen this week in X-Men: First Class in which he takes on the role of Sebastian Shaw.
And Bacon has always created backstory for his characters - sometimes going as far as making it up.
Speaking to MSN movies the actor said: "You can never have too much back story.
"For me at least, if there's no back story in the movie then you look for some kind of source material, and if there's no source material, you make it up.
"You sit there and you write it: 'I was born in this town and this is what my daddy did, and here's my playlist of songs I like to listen to.' For me, that's what it's gotta be."
Bacon has already completed work on Crazy, Stupid, Love - in which he stars alongside Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell.
He is also set to star in Story of a Girl.
X-Men: First Class is out now.
