Kate Winslet has revealed that she is grateful for Titanic as it has allowed her to have creative freedom in her career.
Titanic is re-released into cinemas this week in 3D and this was the role that really made Winslet and her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio worldwide stars.
And Winslet recognises that it was the success of this movie that has allowed her to pick and choose that roles that she has wanted to do in the years that have followed.
Speaking on the Magic 105.4 Breakfast Show the actress said: "I'm fortunate enough to get to choose the roles I play these days, largely due to the success of Titanic actually, and so I do like choosing things that are risky and a little bit unexpected.
"It was really Titanic that provided that creative freedom for me and actually then years later becoming a mother, it has been so brilliant the success of that film, because it has meant I haven't had to work as well and I can completely be a mum... and that's not the case for a lot of actresses who are starting out and have to take what they can."
Winslet has mixed and matched her roles over the last twelve months with movies such as Contagion and Carnage as well as huge success on the small screen with Mildred Pierce.
And she will return to the big screen in an as yet untitled Farrelly/Wessler project with Elizabeth Banks, Emma Stone and Gerard Butler.
Titanic 3D is released 6th April.
