Kate Winslet has revealed that she likes taking on roles that challenge her.
The actress has swapped the big screen for TV as she is set to star in series Mildred Pierce with Guy Pearce.
And the Oscar winner admits that she doesn't like roles that require her to look her best but likes the gritty roles that challenge her.
In an interview with Glamour the actress said: "It's my chance to challenge myself to the fullest, which is one of the great joys about this job... I love it when a character requires me to look less than my red carpet best.
"It's more fun playing a character that requires you to look like dog s**t. I have just wanted to be an actress. That's always been my goal. I didn't want to be famous.
"I wanted to play incredibly challenging, multifaceted characters. Because we are all a puzzle."
Winslet may be about to star on the small screen but she has completed Contagion and Movie 43 for the big screen.
She is currently filming Carnage, which is directed by Roman Polanski, and has been linked to Americana.
