Kate Beckinsale has described action movies as outside her comfort zone - despite being part of the hit franchise Underworld.
The actress admits that she feels more at home on independent projects and says that action film are still a 'novelty'.
But she is set to return in Contraband later this month as she teams up with Mark Wahlberg.
Speaking to Parade the actress said: "I still find it an incredible novelty that I'm allowed to do that.
"My mother still laughs at the thought of me running around based on my success in PE as a child, which was very poor! It's fantasy."
"My comfort zone is probably more in the independent sphere, but there's something very fascinating about doing this movie and then six or seven months later when you actually see it with the special effects and all that, it looks very different than what it felt like when you were doing it."
Beckinsale returning to the Underworld franchise at the beginning of the year and Total Recall is set to be another action project.
The remake sees her star alongside Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel while Len Wiseman is in the director's chair.
Contraband is released 16th March.
