Joss Whedon admits that it wasn't a tough decision to sign on for a second Avengers movie.
Whedon will be back in the director's chair as well as penning the script for Avengers 2 - which is due to hit the big screen at the end of 2015.
Whedon revealed last week that he wanted to explore the characters more in the second film and he was eager to jump on board the project.
Speaking to Craveonline the director said: "Avengers 2, it wasn't a tough decision. For a long time I thought, 'Well, it's just not going to happen', [but] when I actually started to consider it, it became so clear that I desperately wanted to say more about these characters.
"It would've been an easy no and it was a spectacularly easy yes. There was no wrestling.
"Either scenario was delightful. It was a win-win, but I'm very excited about it."
Avengers Assemble is the biggest grossing movie of 2012 so far as Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson all came together for the very first time.
The movie has so far grossed in excess of $1.5 billion at the global box office and is the third biggest movie of all time.
