Josh Harnett has revealed that he wasn't ready for the attention that came his way early in his career.
The actor made his name in movies such as Pearl Harbour before going onto Black Hawk Down - leaving him in the spotlight as one of the actors to watch.
But Hartnett wasn't comfortable in the spotlight at that time but now, a few years older, he is much happier.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly the actor said: "I think that I kind of took a few steps back from Hollywood as soon as it all started to come my way because I wasn't quite ready for the attention.
"I didn't want to watch every word that I say. I wanted to develop naturally, so I just decided that being a quote-unquote "movie star" wasn't for me at that point in my life.
"Now I feel more comfortable with where I'm at... I'm not afraid of what people think of me, which is one of the major problems of having a bit of success in this industry when you're young.
"You see with a lot of people that they kind of go off the deep end. I wasn't going to allow that to happen to me, so I took a bunch of steps back."
Stuck Between Stations sees Hartnett return to the big screen. Directed by Brady Kiernan the movie also stars Sam Rosen and Zoe Lister Jones.
He is currently filming Singularity and has been linked to Dark Star Hollow.
